How To Set Up Your Home Theater Speakers

Home theater speakers are a complete game-changer. They make the film on your screen an immersive experience like no other. Once you buy them, you’ll never have to go out to the movies again!

To make your TV screen into the cinema experience of your dreams, you have to install your speakers properly. From choosing your speakers to positioning them and speaker installation, we’re going to take you through everything you need to consider when setting up the speakers in your home.

What Do You Need?

Home theater speakers aren’t just one or two rogue speakers that go next to your TV. This is a system that works with your TV to take your home theater sound to another level.

You will need:

  • A home theater receiver
  • A center channel speaker
  • Bookshelf or floor-standing speakers
  • Two or four surround speakers
  • One or two powered subwoofers

Placing Your Speakers

Arranging your speakers is more important than you think, as it can really impact your experience. Each surround sound system has unique requirements, and even the shape of your room can affect how you set it up!

Follow this three-step guide, and those sweet sounds will soon make their way to your ears at home.

1) Getting Connected

Speaker wires will need to connect from every speaker to your home theater receiver. You’ll need to measure the amount of wire which will run from each speaker. Take into account whether you’ll be running it under carpets, around doors, or through the walls. You’ll want to know how to keep those pesky wires neat and tidy.

When connecting your wires to the speaker and the back of the receiver, we recommend using banana plugs! You can buy these separately to attach to the wire after cutting it down. This way, you can easily insert the plugs into the hole on the back of the speaker wire.

The subwoofer is connected to the receiver with a subwoofer cable.

2) Connecting Audio To Visual

There’s no film without the visuals, and so you’ll need to connect an HDMI cable from your source components to your receiver (like your Blu-ray player, set-top box, and your television). One HDMI cable will need to go from each of those components into your receiver to get the highest quality possible, but make sure to connect your television first!

3) Power Protection

Nothing should be directly plugged into your wall outlet! There needs to be a buffer between the wires coming out of your wall and the power needed for your surround sound system. Make sure you have enough outlets for everything you need to plug in!

After this, all that is left to do is to calibrate your system.
